Bommarito interview on FloWrestling

Outlook:  This may be the match of the night as the D1 and D2 state champs at 145lbs will be going at it.  Bommarito is a 2xer and has been one of the best in the state for the past couple years while Brown exploded onto the scene this year.  Brown has big wins over some top guys such as Brandon Zeerip, so he is definitely the real deal.  The 145lb state title will be unified June 18th with this match.
Our Pick - Bommarito by decision

Jake Varilek (Lake Orion)

Corey Robinson (Caro)
152lbs
- 2008 D1 State Champion
- Season Record 60-2
- 2x State Placer (4th, 1st), 4x State Qualifer
- Career Record 203-27
- 2X Team Member Dis Duals Team Michigan Blue
- Border Wars National Runner-Up
- Coach Doug Kline
- College Plans – Belmont-Abbey College (NC)

- 2008 D3 State Runner-Up
- Season Record 53-4
- 2x State Placer (5th, 2nd), 4x Qualifier
- Career Record 199-41
- All Conference in Football and Track
- Member of Michigan Freeze Disney Duals Team
- Coach Steve Ley
- College Plans - Central Michigan

Outlook:  Varilek was hot all year from the opening weekend when he knocked off Bommarito to the final weekend when he won the D1 state title.  Robinson ended the year strong as well as he finished runner up to Chris Eggert in a finals match that was closer than many might have anticipated.  Robinson wrestled 160 this year so he may have some size on Varilek, but Varilek's tall build gives him alot of leverage and he should be able to handle the weight.  Both of these guys are good scramblers and wrestle through tough situations so this could be an exciting match
Our Pick - Varilek by decision

Alex Ortman (Bedford)

Kyle Lund (Lakeview)
152lbs
- 2008 D1 State Champion
- Season Record 59-2
- 2X D1 State Champion, 3x placer (4th, 1st, 1st)
- Career Record 169-10
- 2x Member Dis Duals Team Michigan Red
- Coach Denny Brighton
- College Plans– Eastern Michigan University

- 2008 D3 State Placer (3rd)
- Season Record 62-3
- 2x D3 State Placer (3rd, 3rd), 4x State Qualifer
- Career Record 201-36
- 2X State Pole Vault Champion
- Coach Greg Saxton
- College Plans - Michigan State (Track/Field)

Outlook:  2x State Champ Ortman is one of the best in this star studded senior class, yet he often gets overlooked.  He has beaten solid competetion at the state meet the past two years in David Johnson (Jenison) last year and Jake Bohn (East Kentwood) this year.  His title this year was at 160 so you throw that into the mix and he is a heavy favorite going against Lund, who took 3rd at 152.  Lund has finished 3rd the last two years.  It is difficult to imagine that he is the underdog and he has ammased over 200 wins in his career.  That just proves the kind of talent this event has drawn in the first year.
Our Pick - Ortman by major decision

MWA Classic Lineup

112 - James vs Frank
119 - Marsh vs Hayward
125 - Stevens vs Sabin
125 - Light vs Sumner
130 - Cullinan vs Austin
135 - Rozeboom vs Dunn
135 - Cox vs Wilk
140 - Sible vs Weirich
145 - Bommarito vs Brown
152 - Varilek vs Robinson
152 - Ortman vs Lund
160 - Anderson vs Young
171 - Burge vs Sall
189 - McLennan vs Bell
215 - Pettengill vs Rowe
285 - Fouchey vs Charneski

Glen Sible (Williamston)

Rob Weirich (Tecumseh)
- 2008 D3 State Placer (8th @ 135)
- Season Record 49-10
- Coach Pat Weber
- College Plans - Unknown
- 2008 Division 2 State Qualifier (@145)
- Season Record 46-8
- 2x State Qualifier
- Coach Tim Connors
- College Plans - Unknown
Outlook:  This was a late add on after Brumley and McDermitt couldn't go.  Weirich has been solid throughout his career but has never been able to come through at the state meet and Sible was a bit of a surprise this year as he came out of nowhere to earn all-state honors for Williamston.  Weirich holds position and is very hard to score on.  Most of his matches are low scoring.  Sible, meanwhile, is more of an attacker so this could be interesting battle of styles.  Weirich wrestled 145 this year and Sible was a 135lber so there could be a noticeable size difference here, which makes Weirich the favorite.
Our Pick - Weirich by decision
