Fleet of Michigan's best set to take the mats at Disney Duals
6/23 - The AAU "Disney Duals" will kick off this weekend in
Orlando, FL at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex and as
usual, a fleet of Michigan's best prep wrestlers will be in
attendance.
Four Michigan teams are slated to compete in the always
stacked District All-Star Division and across the four teams are a
total of 53 Michigan State Placewinners and 20 State Champions.
Last year Michigan Freeze made a run to the finals, losing to PA
Diesel and this year the Michigan Red team appears to be the
most well suited Michigan team to make a run at challening for
the title this year.
The Red Team features a state placer in every weight, including
2010 State Champions in 9 of the 14 weight classes. In addition
to their proven in-state talent, they also feature the most
nationally proven Michigan wrestlers traveling to Disney this
year, including 2010 MI Grappler Wrestler of the Year Jackson
Morse, who is currently ranked #1 in the country at 152lbs.
Two other nationally ranked wrestlers that headline the Red team
are Senior National Champ Nick McDiarmid and Senior National
All-American Jake Dorulla. Dorulla will be wrestling down a weight from his high school weight, competing at 160lbs this weekend, which makes him even more dangerous. John Rizgallah of Allegan, who won the D2 189lb state title this year, is also wrestling down a weight, competing at 171lbs this weekend, which opens up a spot for Division 1 State Champ Caleb Rivera of Grandville at 189lbs.
Other State Champs on the Michigan Red team include Division 1 bound Dakota Cooley who will be wrestling for CMU next year and Collin Zeerip who will be wrestling for the Wolverines in Ann Arbor next year.
Michigan Blue will be competeting again this year, and they too pack some punch. Michigan Freeze will be sending two squads to Disney this weekend, "Freeze Siberia" and "Freeze Antartica".
Freeze Siberia, the stronger of the two Freee squads, features 6 State Champs, as well as state placers in every single weight. Among the big names leading the way for Freeze Siberia will be D-1 college bound Darius Wass (Gardner-Webb), Matt Beebe (Gardner-Webb), Nick Humes (Michigan State), and Tyler Humes (Michigan State). Nick Humes will look to repeat his breakout performance from last year's Disney Duals where he went undefeated to lead the way for Freeze.
The Michigan Blue team features 7 State Finalists and 4 State Champs. A pair of three time state champions, Nick Smith and Tyler Keselring, will anchor the Blue team, which features a state placer at every weight besides one.
The one weight where Blue does not boast a state placer may be one of the most ineresting to watch as they feature 8th grade standout Garrett Stehley at 189lbs. Stehley is one of the most highly touted wrestlers coming in next year's freshman class and this weekend will be a huge opportunity to prove himself early, especially as an 8th grader wrestling many college-bound seniors at 189lbs.
In addition to the 4 Michigan All-Star Teams, Hartland High School will also be entering a team in the Community Division.
