New wrestling novel showcases the benefits of Wrestling
Nearfall: The Adventures of Matt and Mike, by Joe Reasbeck
When you hear about wrestling on tv, in movies, or in books you usually hear about the over-exaggerated "negative" side of our sport: weight cutting, skin diseases, cauliflower ear, crazy parents, etc.  Well there is finally some good publicity as the novel entitled Nearfall, authored by Joe Reasbeck, is now availailable.

The novel follows the life of two brothers and showcases how the sport of wrestling can build the character to tackle difficult life issues such as bullying, peer pressure, fitting in, as well as family and social struggles, among many other things.

The book is very family freindly and teaches many great life lessons.  Most importantly, it sheds light on the positive things that can come from wrestling, which many people in the general public never hear about.  The book is intended for kids 10-17 years old, however, anyone who has ever wrestled or been involved in wrestling can relate to this novel.

2000 Olympian Heath Sims said of the novel, “Finally, a great wrestling novel. This book inspires kids of all body types, skills and backgrounds to try wrestling. This is exactly the type of book our sport needs.”

The books author, Joe Reasbeck, spent most of life wrestling as he grew up in northern Wisconsin and eventually attended and wrestled at The University of Minnesota.  He also competed extensively in Greco-Roman wrestling and trained for the 1996 Olympics Games.  Since stepping down from competetive wrestling, Joe has gotten into movie production and wrote the movie Nearfall.  Today he lives in Texas with his wife and two sons.
