A pair of Davison wrestlers are set to compete at the "Agony in Ames" dual at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa tomorrow night. The event pits several top-ranked and highly touted wrestlers from Iowa and the surrounding states with other nationally renowned athletes from around the country.
At 106, sophomore Andrew Chambal is matched up with Iowa's Cullan Schriever. Schriever was a 2016 Cadet Freestyle National Champion at 88 lbs before placing 6th at 106 in 2017. Similarly, Chambal placed 3rd in the 88 lb bracket and was 2nd at Fargo in 2017, but at 100 lbs. On paper it should be a dynamite matchup.
A GFC rematch is going down at 145 where last weekend's finalists will once again square off in freshman Alex Facundo and Illinois' Kendall Coleman. The blue chip Facundo knocked off the Purdue commit Coleman in an action-packed 11-6 bout. Look for more of the same this weekend.
Chambal and Facundo won't be the only Davison Cardinals in attendance, however. Former 4x Michigan state champ and 2x NCAA champ Brent Metcalf is an assistant for the Cyclones.
