MSU's Caffey Also Receives Spot at 184

Three more NCAA qualifiers from Michigan were added to the tournament as a result of this afternoon's At-Large selections.  Noah Gonser (Campbell/Grand Blanc), Nate Limmex (Purdue/GRCC), and Malik Amine (Michigan/DCC) all earned wild card bids to their second career NCAA tournaments.  Michigan State also picked up another spot with freshman 184 pounder Cam Caffey getting a qualifying nod.

With the three spots, the total qualifiers coming from the Wolverine State ended up at 19.  That marks the highest number of qualifiers in a year since 1988 (20).  The all-time high mark was set the year prior, in 1987 (21).  Technically it could be tied for the most D1 qualifiers as in both 1988 and 1987, NCAA DII national finalists were allowed to compete at the DI Championships (MI had 1 in '88 and 2 in '87).

It is truly an impressive performance from all of the former Michigan prep stars who are continuing to succeed at the next level.  Brackets will be released tomorrow evening and we'll have the breakdown for all of the wrestlers with Michigan ties.  Here's to hoping at least nine of these guys make it onto the podium to set another state record.
