Rayana Sahagun tries to turn FL's Jessica Corredor in the 100 lb semifinal during USAW Junior Nationals in Fargo. Sahagun lost in the finals to UT’s Sage Mortimer and was MI’s highest finisher going 5-1 on the tournament.

Junior Women's Freestyle concluded Wednesday afternoon and Michigan's lone All-American made the most of her semifinal opportunity.

Rayana Sahagun of Sparta took down 6th-ranked Jessica Corredor of Florida in the semis in an 8-8 shootout to advance to the 100 lb finals.  There she fell to Sage Mortimer of Utah, who won both the 16U and Junior titles.  Sahagun's runner-up finish was her second career Fargo All-American honor, to go along with a 7th place finish in Cadets a year ago.  Her finals appearance, along with Cadet Kayley Rada's runner-up finish, marked the first time since 2015 Michigan put two girls into national title bouts.

The Cadet Greco contingent advanced one wrestler through to Day 2 with Davison's James Johnston earning All-American honors in the style for the second straight year (8th in 2018).  Johnston outscored his opponents 26-1 en route to a quarterfinal berth, where he lost to Garrison Dendy of Georgia.  He would rebound to pick up an 8-2 win and solidify a top-eight finish and lock up Davison's third AA honor of the week (Horwath, Barr).

Kalamazoo Central's Joshua Boggan was a match away from placing at 195 lbs, going 3-2 on the tournament.  Jacob Gonzales and Caden Natale also turned in 3-2 records on the day.  Kent McCombs finished 2-2.

Johnston will look to wrestle back for 3rd tomorrow, starting at 10:00 am EST.  The Junior Greco portion will kick off at the same time.
