College wrestling returns in a major way tonight

Michigan's #1 Roofing Company - ran by all former wrestlers!

Friday - #2 Michigan vs #17 Rutgers

A lot of anticipation around the Wolverines debut to the mats this year.  Three returning all-americans (Stevan Micic, Logan Massa, Myles Amine) come back from an Olympic Redshirt last year to add to an already powerful lineup that is ranked as high as #2 in the nation right now.

Start Time 7pm, Live Stream (BTN)

MATCH TO WATCH
133 - #2 Stevan Micic (UM) vs #6 Sammy Alvarez (Rutgers)
This will be a good test for Micic's first folkstyle match since March of 2018.  Micic is a 3x All-American and one of the best in the world at his weight right now, so he should still be the heavy favorite.  However, Alvarez was impressive last year as a true freshman qualifying for NCAAs.

PROJECTED LINEUPS
125 - #13 Jack Medley/Dylan Ragusin (UM) vs #20 Nicolas Aguilar (RU)
133 - #2 Stevan Micic (UM) vs #6 Sammy Alvarez (RU)
141 - Drew Mattin (UM) vs #4 Sebastian Rivera (RU)
149 - #5 Kanen Storr (UM) vs Gerard Angelo/Michael VanBrill (RU)
157 - #9 Will Lewan (UM) vs Robert Kanniard (RU)
165 - #17 Cameron Amine (UM) vs Brett Donner/Connor O'Neil (RU)
174 - #2 Logan Massa (UM) vs #19 Joe Grello (RU)
184 - Joseph Walker (UM) vs John Poznaski (RU)
197 - Andrew Davison (UM) vs Billy Janzer (RU)
285 - #2 Mason Parris (UM) vs Christian Colucci (RU)

MYLES AMINE
R
anked #1 in the nation at 184lbs, reportedly is out due to injury from the RTC duals last month.  UM did not list him on their projected lineup.

OUTLOOK
Even without Myles Amine, the Wolverines should have no issues on opening night, considering all the other main players are healthy and in action.  At least 7 weights should be heavily favored to the Wolverines with a very likely path to winning at least 9 as Rivera at 141 is probably the only weight that Rutgers is considered the clear favorite.

FRIDAY - #21 Central Michigan vs #10 Missouri

CMU senior 197lber and former Tecumseh state champ Landon Pelham

This is a big time MAC showdown right out of the gates for CMU.  The Chipps knocked the rust off last weekend with a 44-0 shutout over Olivet, and now they have a huge test with MAC favorite Mizzou.

START TIME 4pm, Live Stream on Watch ESPN

MATCH TO WATCH
285 #4 Matt Stencel (CMU) vs #8 Zach Elam (MIZZOU)
Top 10 matchup with two premiere big men.  This is a good test for Stencel right out of the gates.  These guys have not wrestled in nearly two years, but last time out Stencel scored a third period fall.

PROJECTED MATCHUPS
125 - #3 Drew Hildebrandt (CMU) vs #19 Connor Brown (MIZZ)
133 - #17 Drew Marten (CMU) vs #14 Matt Schmitt (MIZZ)
141 - #12 Dresden Simon/Hunter Watts (CMU) vs #16 Allan Hart/Josh Edmond (MIZZ)
149 - Corbyn Munson (CMU) vs #3 Brock Mauller (MIZZ)
157 - Mason Breece (CMU)  vs #13 Jarrett Jacques/Keegon O'Toole (MIZZ)
165 - Alex Cramer (CMU) vs #20 Peyton Mocco (MIZZ)
174 - Jake Lowell (CMU) vs Sean Harman (MIZZ)
184 - Ben Cushman/Sage Castillo (CMU) vs Jeremiah Kent (MIZZ)
197 - Landon Pelham (CMU) vs Wyatt Koelling (MIZZ)
285 - #4 Matt Stencel (CMU) vs #8 Zach Elam (MIZZ)

OUTLOOK
Big time matchup for the Chippewas on the road with what should be a great slate of closely contested matches.  4 potential ranked matches highlight the dual at 125, 133, 141, and 285 and 165-197 could go either way as well.

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR JOSH EDMOND
DCC grad Josh Edmond is a true freshman at Mizzou and competed last weekend for the Tigers at 141, splitting time with nationally ranked Alan Hart.  Edmond scored a dominant top 20 win over North Dakota State in his debut.  It will be interesting to see if Missouri coach Brian Smith gives Edmond the nod against the team from his home-state.  If so we would see a Simon vs Edmond matchup which would really interesting with Simon, a 2016 grad from Dansville, and Edmond a 2020 grad.

FRIDAY - #21 Central Michigan vs Wyoming

The Chipps second dual of the day on Friday as they are part of a tri-meet at Missouri.  This is CMU's only non-conference D1 action of this season.

START TIME 6pm, Live Stream on Rokfin

133 - #17 Drew Marten (CMU) vs Job Greenwood/Jake Svihel (WY)
