The 16U national tournament gets underway in Fargo tomorrow - beginning with Freestyle, which runs from Saturday to Monday, and followed by Greco on Wednesday and Thursday.  Michigan brings a good mix of guys with experience and talented newcomers alike.  35+ are entered in freestyle, while 30+ are registered for Greco.

Jackson Blum is the lone returning placer, taking 6th in 16U freestyle a year ago. Since Fargo a year ago, Jackson Blum went on to win a state championship as a freshman for Lowell in D2, as well as capture a championship at the Grappler Fall Classic. Blum also went 5-0 up an age group at the Junior Duals last month.

There are numerous other big names to keep an eye on. D1 state champ Conor McAlary from Hudsonville is also registered and will be looking to break onto the national scene. Wyatt Lees is a top incoming freshman in the state of Michigan and will be a name to watch this week. Jarrett Smith will be a tough out at 88lbs. He went a combined 16-3 at 16U Duals last month, including 10-0 in freestyle. D2 state placer Philip Lamka had an outstanding tournament at 16U Duals, going 8-1 in Greco and 7-2 in freestyle. Talan Parsons is a D3 state champ and Grappler Fall Classic placer with a lot of freestyle and Greco experience.

Other podium threats include Jaron Bensinger, Brady Baker, Josh Vasquez, and Owen Segorski. Bensinger and Baker are big Greco threats. Bensinger went 7-2 at 16U duals, while Baker was 6-2 in Greco at Junior Duals. Vasquez took 3rd in D1 this season and was a double champ at MUSAW in May. Segorski was a D2 state champ this season and won MUSAW in freestyle. 

Santana Ramon is a darkhorse to watch after cruising through MUSAW in both styles. Zane Willobee, Trey Parker, Gavin Craner, and Vaughn Tarbet are others to watch throughout the tournament.
