Men's Greco Fargo Recap

Tournament Recap

The 2022 16U and Junior National Championships are officially wrapped up in Fargo, and Team Michigan is bringing home four more All-Americans. Jaron Bensinger was the lone All-American in 16U, taking 8th at 94lbs. After losing in the first round, Bensinger battled all the way back to the podium to become an All-American. On the back side, Bensinger picked up two 8-0 tech falls before beating Caden Correll of Illinois in the blood round to secure his podium spot.

In the Junior division, Michigan was able to put three on the podium. Caden Ferris led the way for Juniors with a 3rd place finish at 220lbs. Ferris was dominant, going 8-1 in the tournament with 3 pins and 4 techs. Ferris cruised to a 9-0 tech over nationally ranked Thiry of Iowa in the blood round. In the third place match, Ferris beat Sorenson of New York 10-1.

At 120lbs, Marcello Milani followed up last year's 16U podium finish with All-American honors this year. Milani fell in the Round of 16 to Cater of Washington before stringing together 5 consecutive wins to reach the 3rd place match. In the 3rd place match, Milani fell to nationally ranked Koehler of Iowa. In all, Milani finished 8-2 in Greco including 4 techs and a pin.

Brayden Gautreau rounded out the placers for Michigan with a 5th place performance at 170lbs. The D2 state champ went 5-2 in Greco, reaching the semi finals before falling to eventual champ Gillum of Illinois. In the 5th place match, Gautreau cruised to a quick 8-0 tech over Fox of Iowa to earn his first spot on the podium in Fargo.
