College Week 3 Preview

Michigan State University

The Spartans kicked off the season with two dominating wins last weekend, and they will look to continue the momentum this weekend on another road trip. On Friday, Michigan State will be wrestling American, who is coached by former CMU Chippewa Jason Borelli. That dual will be streamed on ESPN+.

On Saturday, MSU will compete in the Navy Classic, which will include teams like Nebraska, Air Force, Bucknell, and Navy. MSU will double enter at numerous weights, including 125 (Gomez and Lujan), 149 (Omania, Homrock, and Stauffenburg), and 165 (Fish and Hoey).

Central Michigan University

Central Michigan begins their dual season on Friday night in a match against North Carolina State, who is one of the top teams in the nation. The Wolfpack are currently ranked 12th in the country, and 7 of their 10 starters are ranked in the country. NC State is led by All American Trent Hidlay at 184, while Ed Scott had a breakout season at 157lbs as a freshman last year. 125lbs will be interesting, where 3x MHSAA champion Spidle (CMU) will take on 4x MHSAA champ Trombley of NC State. Spidle wrestled at Flint Powers, and Trombley wrestled at Lake Fenton. 157lbs will be the lone match up of ranked wrestlers and NCAA qualifiers, where Corbyn Munson will take on Ed Scott.

The Chippewas will remain on the road in New York on Saturday when they compete in the Army Black Knight Invitational.

University of Michigan

Michigan has its home opener on Sunday against Columbia and will look to improve to 3-0.  Columbia has not yet wrestled a dual this year, but they will take on Ohio State Friday, so we will have a better look at the team at that point. In all, this is a very similar team to what the Lions put on the mat last year against Michigan. The Wolverines won that dual 34-3. The match to watch here is at 141lbs where Cole Mattin will look to continue his hot start against #17 Kazimir.

Davenport - Davenport lost to Rochester University on Wednesday but will be back in action at the Albion College Open on Sunday

DIII Preview

Adrian - The women will be competing at the Albion Invitation on Sunday, while the men will be at Olivet to wrestle Mt. St. Joseph, Loras College, Otterbein, and Morehead State

Albion - The men and women are hosting the Albion Invitational this weekend, with numerous Michigan and national teams in attendance

Alma - Alma will be at the Olivet College Duals on Saturday with teams TBD

Olivet - Olivet will be hosting the Olivet College Duals on Saturday. They will be wrestling Mount Union, Wis. Platteville, Muskegon CC, John Carroll, and Ohio Northern.

NAIA Preview

Cleary - The Cougars will be competing at the Albion Invitational on Sunday

Cornerstone - Cornerstone lost a close dual to Lourdes on Wednesday (20-18). The will be back in action on Sunday at the Albion Invitational.

Rochester - Rochester cruised to a 44-12 win over Davenport on Wednesday, and they will be in attendance at the Albion Invitational on Sunday

Siena Heights - The men's and women's teams will be at the Albion Invitational on Sunday.  The men's team will also be home against Marian on Monday and Henry Ford College on Tuesday.
