By MI Grappler, 04/22/14, 4:00PM EDT

St Johns 4x State Champ tops off storied career with WOY honors

St. Johns senior Zac Hall has been a household name in high school wrestling the past four years, winning 4 Division 2 State titles, including a perfect 100-0 record throughout his junior and senior seasons.  He has done just about everything you could imagine in the past four years, and what better way to finish it off than as the Michigan Grappler Prep Wrestler of The Year.

"It was one heck of a ride," said Hall, "Winning that 4th title was a feeling of great success and I will surely never forget all the people that helped me accomplish my goals.  I also won't forget all the great memories I made with my teammates."

Hall finished his senior season 52-0 and was un-challenged within the state, dominating his opposition.  In addition, he continued to shine on the national stage.

Last summer he was a combined 11-0 at the Junior Duals, including a dominant 10-2 win over 2x CA State Champ and #2 nationally ranked Zahid Valencia.  He then went on to finish 5th in an absolutely stacked weight class at the Junior Freestyle Nationals in Fargo.

Then, this fall he put together back-to-back spotless performances at the Grappler Fall Classic and Freak Show in Vegas.  He won one of the deepest weights in GFC history that included two other nationally ranked wrestlers and at the Freak Show he knocked off #9 ranked California State Champ Emilio Saavedra.

Hall currently sits as the #2 ranked 138lber in the country by InterMat and the #15 Senior recruit in the country.

He becomes the 8th MI Grappler Wrestler of The Year and the 2nd from St. Johns, joining former high school and future college teammate Taylor Massa (2012).

"This award means a lot to me," said Hall, "The class of 2014 is loaded with great talent, so to be recognized amonst all of them is a great honor.  The past recipients of this award have done some amazing things, so to be added into that category is remarkable."

Hall will continue his wrestling career at the University of Michigan next fall, joining the previous two Wrestlers of The Year, Adam Coon and Massa, in Ann Arbor.

If his college career is anything like this prep career, expect him to make an immediate and lasting impact.

"I am beyond excited for my future.  I have never been so hungry to be the best.  I want to be a household name that people remember," said Hall. "My dream is to win individual and team national titles on the mat, and off the mat I want to become a succesful surgeon."

Michigan Grappler conducted a statewide vote of Head Wrestling Coaches in Michigan, with over 80 Head Coaches weighing in and Hall convincingly recieved over 2/3 of the votes.
