AKRON, Ohio – Four Central Michigan wrestlers placed in their respective weight classes over the weekend at the ASICS University Nationals at the University of Akron’s Stile Athletics Field House.
All four of the wrestlers are members of the CMU wrestling team and the Central Michigan Regional Training Center (RTC).
Central Michigan’s Colin Heffernan placed fourth at 154 pounds, Jordan Wohlfert finished sixth at 163, and Christian Brucki placed seventh and Jordan Atienza placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in 176.
“We’re happy with the attitude and proud of our wrestlers’ efforts,” CMU coach Tom Borrelli said. “They trained hard for this event and had a productive spring. The competition at University Nationals was good this year as it was the qualifying tournament for the University World Team. Four placers is a good showing for us at this moment.”
Heffernan lost by 10-0 technical fall to Michael Kemerer of Iowa in the third-place match, and Wohlfert dropped a 5-0 decision to Tyrel White of New York City RTC in the sixth-place match. Brucki and Atienza did not wrestle their seventh-place match.
Heffernan finished 6-1 in the tournament with two technical falls; Wholfert went 7-2 with four technical falls and one pin; Brucki finished 6-1 with one technical fall; and Atienza finished 5-2, and all five of his wins came on technical falls.
