With the early signing period coming to a close on Wednesday, November 15, a handful of Michigan preps announced their intentions to wrestle at the next level.
Eastern Michigan picked up two in-state commitments in Austin Emerson and Drake Pauwels. Emerson was a D1 state runner-up and Double Junior All-American at heavyweight. He ranks as the #4 prospect in the Class of 2018 and is ranked 6th in the nation by Flowrestling. Pauwels, a New Boston Huron senior, was 4th in the state a year ago and was 7th as a sophomore. Currently ranked 2nd at 189 in D2, he projects as a 184/197 pounder.
The Chippewas landed a State Champ in Garber's Mitchel Christensen. Christensen won the Division 3 title last season at 112 and is the #2 ranked wrestler at 125 in D3 to start this year. He projects as a 133/141 pounder for Coach Borrelli's squad.
Gaylord senior Derek Giallombardo will be joining older brother Trevor at Ohio University. Giallombardo has finished 4th in the state each of the past two seasons. He starts the year ranked 3rd at 119 and projects as a 125 for the Bobcats.
